T6s confused

cruisinfanatic

Coming from a T5i, my T6s focusing is different. I'm not able to get 1 dot focusing point even though following directions on videos I've seen.

I select 1 pt AF but when trying to take a picture, I still get several

Any help is appreciated

Welcome to the forum. The T6s is more complicated than the T5i when it comes to settings.

Yes, have done this.

If I focus on a subject, I don't get 1 square, Let along a red one

What dial setting should I be using?

Not sure I understand. Do you mean the camera isn't focusing?

If you set the dial to Green Square do you get multiple focus points showing?

Try setting camera to the P mode setting and see what happens.

Even though it is only focusing at one point, it will show all points in focus. As long as your single point lights up, you are good.

Set the Mode dial to P, Tv, Av, or M. Press and release the AF Point Selection button. You will see the AF Point Selection screen on the monitor. From this screen, you can choose one of two modes: Automatic AF Point Selection, in which all focus points are considered, or Manual AF Point Selection, in which you choose a single focus point. You can check the current mode by looking through the viewfinder. When you press and release the AF Point Selection button, all nine autofocus points turn red in the viewfinder if you’re in Automatic AF Point Selection mode. A single point turns red if you’re in Manual AF Point Selection mode.

I can't figure out how to get to manual. Choices are man selection 1 pt, manual selection zone, and auto selection zone,

All points light up red and when trying to take picture there are some squares, but none light up

What setting is your mode dial at?

Is the lens switch set to AF?

What are you trying to photograph?

lense is af.

could problem be because using

Tamron 16-300mm?

used for birding

Even on auto, all squares there are black. None ever are red

Could be. Looks like this lens is f/6.3 at 300mm. T6s will only AF up to a lens aperture of f/5.6.

Try setting zoom at the 16mm setting and see if anything changes.

Also, do you have a Canon lens to try?
