Sollutions uploading Firmware EOS R5

Hello there,

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but after hours of trying, I finally managed to update my EOS R 5 to the latest firmware. This failed repeatedly, to the point of frustration. I tried everything until this last one, and the solution below worked perfectly for me:

Firmware Update EOS R5 – The Correct, Error-Free Procedure

Download the firmware from Canon’s website.
The file you download will be a ZIP file.

Open your downloads folder and extract the ZIP file.
Inside the extracted folder you will find the actual update file:
.FIR

Format the SD card in the camera itself
(Menu → Setup → Format card).

Insert the SD card into your computer and place only the extracted FIR file in the root of the card
(not inside any folder).

Insert the card back into the camera → Menu → FirmwareUpdate.

The camera will recognize the file and perform the update.

Welcome to the community.

Worth mentioning, the zip file that you extract also has a PDF with these instructions.  It is also helpful to remove a second card if present and only have one card in the camera when the update is performed.  We're sorry that you experienced difficulties performing the update.
