Hi all,
During a trip this past weekend I was taking pictures with my Canon Rebel EOS T5i and they were showing up fine on the screen when I pressed the playback button after taking a shot. A couple hours later I reviewed the pictures in the car on the camera screen and only about 20 out of 200 pictures taken showed up, from the beginning portion of the day. During the entire period of shooting and after I reviewed the pictures in the car, the ticker that shows how many shots you have remaining until the card is full was incrementing down.
Only the early pictures showed up when I connected the SD card to my computer. I tried recovering photos using photorec, which found and recovered thousands of photos going back years, but did not find any photos (corrupted, deleted, or otherwise) more recent than the 20 pictures from earlier in the day.
When I try to take a picture without the SD card inserted, the camera informs me that no SD card is inserted.
Just wondering if anyone has advise as to potential recovery of these photos (guessing this is a lost cause) or how to avoid this issue in the future (planning to factory reset the camera and get a new sd card).
Thanks!

Is this a full size card or a micro with adapter?
Cards can fail. I suggest you replace this one.
When was the last time you did a low-level format in the camera?
