R7 + RF-S 10-18: lens incompatible message

bshackcreative

Attached the new RF-S 10-18 on my R7 and a message pops up saying the lens is incompatible with my R7 and to upgrade my R7 Firmware. My R7 is on firmware 1.3.1. Wait out a new Firmware version for the R7? Lens seems to work but I’d rather know for sure it works fully with my R7.

ALL RF & RF-S lenses are compatible with the EOS R7. It's odd that an incompatibility message is appearing. It is possible that the camera may need a firmware update for the lens to work correctly or vice versa.

Register your product and contact Canon support. That will be the direct answer.

Greetings,

John and Demetrius are both correct,  If the 10-18 is giving this message, the R7 will likely need a FW update to correct.  v1.3.1 was released 5/31.  The sooner you let support know, the sooner you should see a v1.4.0 with the addition.😃  This is not common and support usually resolves quickly.  The lens should work fine until then.

We are expecting new firmware for several models on or about 12/14.  Please report this as soon as possible.

Check the announcements panel in the right side of this forum.

Today Canon have announced 1.4.0 firmware and the first entry is that it adds support for the RF-S 10-18mm lens.

Looks like Canon was already aware the addition was needed.
