Hi. I just purchased a new Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera after using the 5D Mark IV the last few years. The slowest shutter speed for stills is 1/2 second in manual mode.
I have not tried other modes as I always use manual.
Is there a reason why or a setting that needs to be changed? # R5

AAAH! The "effective for" fooled me!

Thank you, Brian. Excellent instructions, it was on the “SHOOT6” tab. I think it would be very helpful if this information was also on page #116 under step 3 of the advanced user guide.

Thank you so much for having taken the time to post this solution more than a year ago. I am in Iceland shooting waterfalls and I encountered the same issue and it wasn't intuitive for me to consider my shutter speed mode. In fact I changed the mode from first curtain electronic to just electronic while I'm here, but I didn't realize I wouldn't be able to shoot at a slower shutter speed. Very helpful. I'm tired and didn't want to dig into the manual at almost 11 pm at night (during June summer solstice no less!).
