I just took delivery of my R5 yesterday, and once I updated the firmware started making some settings similar to what I do on my R6 Mk II and 1DX Mk III; things like grid in the viewfinder, that sort of thing.
However, I've discovered that if I turn the camera's power off, once I turn it on again, those settings are not retained. As an example, if I turn the item for "Release shutter without card" to Off, if I turn the camera off and then turn it on again, it's back to the default On for that selection. Does anybody have any information on this? I'd hate to think that I have a lemon of a camera and will need to return it.
Thanks in advance!

What shooting mode are you using, is it C1, C2 or C3 by any chance?
These custom modes don't save any changes you make to the camera settings by default. If you are using the custom modes, then you need to go to the menu to find custom shooting mode (C1-C3) and then go to the next menu where you will see Auto update set. it is disabled by default, but if you change it it enable then any changes made while the custom mode is used will be saved.
If you are not using custom modes, then leave the camera with the battery in for 24 hours but switch the camera off. This will charge up the internal slow discharge capacitor that backs up the internal settings. Then try again. If the R5 has not been sued for some time this is one possibility.

Thanks so much! Yes, that appeared to be it. I use C1 in Av mode and C2 in Tv mode, and it was in C1 that I saw my settings weren't being maintained. Very much appreciate the reply and the help!
Cheers,
