Is there a definitive explanation of the Focus Increment setting in the R5's focus stacking feature? For example, if I set the focus increment to 10 does that mean that the R5 will shift focus by more than the depth of field? If not, why not shoot with a focus increment of 10 all the time? After reading everything I can find I don't understand why the focus increment setting exists. Why do I need it? Thanks for any information you can point me to.

I’m not sure it’s reasonable to expect a firmware subroutine to be comparable to dedicated software.

You may be right, John, but it is reasonable to expect Canon to be aware of the competition and steal ideas when they the competition is doing something better. Canon's in-camera focus bracketing doesn't have to outperform Helicon Focus but it should at least equal FUJIFILM's approach. Although I'm not sure it's true any more, for a while FUJIFILM's camera division seemed under the control of a small group of engineers who were also photographers. I wish that were true of Canon.

As John pointed out, to hold the expectation that a camera should have the computational horsepower of a computer goes beyond unreasonable.
