R5 Markii Flash function settings not working

jaredp

I have the westcott FJ-X3m connected and working(partially) with my R5Mii. However the Flash function settings are set at TTL and First curtain. No other settings are visible. When I select the set button on either TLL or first curtain, nothing happens and I can't change the settings(i.e to HSS).

For additional info the flash works fine otherwise, fires, etc.

Sorry to be blunt, but this is a compatibility issue between the camera and the trigger. Canon Speedlites and Speedlite transmitters work fine with the EOS R5 Mark II, so therefore it must be an issue with your trigger.

It works fine on my R6M2. I disagree that it’s the trigger.

Actually this can happen between a new camera and the old flash trigger. So just because a 3rd Party item works with an old camera doesn't mean it will work on a new one.

Also the R5 Mk II has new capabilities with regards to flash. So this extra communication can create a problem for third party triggers if they get unexpected commands from the camera.

Very true nothing is a simple as it seems like it is. Canon doesn't tell 3rd Parties how their flash system works.

I am having this same issue. I called Westcott about it and they said they are aware and that it's still too early to know if (she didn't say when) the camera and the lights will be compatible. It sounds like it could be as simple as a firmware update but there are no promises. This is super frustrating for me as it worked perfectly with my R5.

It's not up to Canon to make it work. It's up to the 3rd Party manufacturer to make it work.
