R5 Freezing after 1.8.1 Firmware upgrade

My R5 has been freezing up after the most recent firmware update, 1.8.1. Did I do something wrong, or is this been an issue with the Firmware update? If it's a known bug, I would rather not have to spend the $499 repair costs to send it in. Will the next update possibly address this?

Purchased in Jan 2021. Using RF 100-500 lens.

Believe it or not I have done quite a lot of research on this problem & so far have found quite a few places where people have experienced the problem. I have found one site where someone had a solution that is reported to work (which I shared here).

I found this thread where a lot of people have been experiencing very similar problems with the same camera & it seemed logical to share that I have what appears to be the same problem - because if there is a common problem (there appears to be) there is likely to be a common solution.  Not only is there not, there is a practice of fragmenting the problems (thereby diluting them and making solutions harder to find & share) meaning there is no effort to address issues on a community basis, which I find ironic from the Canon Community.

I was under the misguided impression that I could help the community by sharing the problem I am experiencing & a possible solution I have found, & potentially get some help.

I may have missed it, but had I seen the same message on the many prior “piggyback” posts about posting to a new thread, that in itself would have been helpful.

The message I am getting as someone new to the “community” is more one of patronizing criticism than help, leaving me with the feeling “you and your problem are not welcome here.” Not what I expected of the Canon “community” but life is full of disappointments.
