R5 File numbering duplicates file numbers

timholman

When the file number goes to 9,999 it then returns to 0001.  I usually am in the field shooting photos of wildlife and it then makes duplicate numbers as it does not change the letter Q to R ( _E2Q0001).  I have to manually do it.  I possibly have not set something in the camera correctly.

Any help?

Greetings,

See the note under selecting a folder.

Folders are named as in “100EOSR5,” with a three-digit folder number followed by five letters or numbers. A folder can contain up to 9999 images (file number 0001–9999). When a folder becomes full, a new folder with the folder number increased by one is created automatically. Also, if manual reset () is executed, a new folder will be created automatically. Folders numbered from 100 to 999 can be created.

The camera does not automatically change the initial four characters of the filename when it creates a new folder and starts numbering from 0001 again.

The camera complies with the EXIF standard for still filenames so that is four alpha numeric characters followed by four digits. The cameras all come with a factory set initial four characters, and if you select Adobe RGB colour space the first of the four characters is changed to an underscore to indicate that this is an AdobeRGB file. So you appear to have a code [some character]E2Q in your camera, and are using AdobeRGB colour space.

yes, I use Adobe color.

Maybe Canon could do a firmware update to correct the issue and let the last alpha letter increase when the file starts over at 0001.
