R10 "Thenar region" of right hand unexpectedly depresses FLASH button, disables flash - solution?

Hi!

Subject is the question. I'm speaking of External flash (Adorama's "R2 Zoom Flashpoint" rebranded Godox 600TT),

Perhaps there's  a way to make the flash button inactive/disabled? That would be ideal...perhaps an alternative? As the rabbit said "I'm all ears", which. BTW, is also what the cornfield said...but now I'm getting corny, not making a kernel of sense...

Tanker ships worth of thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes I know the button on the right side of the cross-keys. It is possible to reconfigure this button for some other function, even nothing.

  • Press MENU and go to Customise buttons
  • Scroll down the buttons until you reach Right button, press SET
  • Choose a function from the list, note that the very last choice is OFF, as in do nothing!

Hope that helps,

Brian

See the 3rd tab of your first menu choices (the one that looks like a little camera in red).

Look under flash firing.

If you haven't done so yet, I'd encourage you to download your manual in pdf format. You can then use the search function in Adobe to search for things. I have found it extremely helpful.

Steve, I know about that enable/disable flash menu option, but that doesn't stop the right part of my hand (specifically the thenar region) from accidently depressing the flash button and disabling the flash (happened a few times already and I've heard mention of it in YT posts) in the midst of shooting.

I need a way to take it's function away - it's superfluous anyway, since I can control flash enable/disable via the menu, as mentioned.

Your thoughts, please?
Thanks,

Mike

I'm aware of the menu setting - and each time my hand accidently presses the flash symbol, I go back to that ment setting and re-enable it so that I can return to using the flash (I guess that I could just press the flash button again - that might work...)

BUT the question is how to DISENGAGE the action of the flash button so that in the midst of taking a shot I don't accidentally lose the ability for the flash to fire.

I do consult the advanced manual and the other one, BTW. It's not a question of "RTFM".

Thank you,

Mike

Manual is downloaded. I come to the forum when I can't find the answer in the 916 page advanced manual or the  other one (the one where the pages start wit a letter of the alphabet).

I also search YT for answers, as well as DuckDuckGo.

I query the forum as a last resort.

My post processing gear consists of "Adobe Photoshop Elements 15" with "Elements +".

Well, if I have a choice to set it to something else, might I ascribe the task of Exposure Compensation to it to work with Auto ISO? (This would  appear to resolve two of my queries with one solution).

If I happen to accidentally depress it, as far as I know, it won't affect my shot if I don't touch the dial as well - correct?

Thank you, Most Awesome One,

Mike

Mike,

That is some clever thinking, but you are just one step ahead of the thinking in Japan when they wrote the firmware. As you can't assign exposure compensation to any of the four "cross key" buttons. 😲

Oh well, I'll just have to settle down and behave myself    ;   )
