Hi @tinkermn pressing the info button will change what’s displayed on the LCD screen. If the camera is new to you I recommend resetting the main and custom functions back to factory defaults. Also Canon provides FREE electronic copies of manuals on their website.

What you're seeing is the camera's electronic level. It comes in handy from time to time as you try to keep your horizons level.

I don't know if your camera has the same feature as mine ( a T8i ),  but on mine, in viewfinder shooting, there is also a teeny, tiny level icon in the bottom left-hand corner of my viewfinder that I also find helpful from time to time.
