Not able to register EOS R5 Body

vicvegaS7

I tried several times to register my EOS R5 Body, but I got an invalid serial number. I am using the number located on the bottom lens plate socket in the grey box. Has anyone else had trouble with it? I had bought it at a reputable store in Illinois.

Are you talking about the Canon label on the bottom of the body next to the battery door?

Make sure the serial number on the camera body matches the serial number on the box, possibly on your receipt and the serial number shown in the EXIF data attached to any photos taken with that camera.

Was the camera purchased as new or used?

Greetings,

Did your camera come with a US Warranty Card?  If you purchased the camera new and it wasn't grey market, it will have a US Warranty card in its box.

Canon camera serial numbers are 12 digits in length, usually all numeric. One of the characters in the serial number indicates the region that the camera was destined for when it left the Canon factory it was made in. If that doesn't match as a USA destined camera then you cannot register it in the USA.

Thank you, everyone, for your response. I bought this in December 2022 and, unfortunately, do not have the box to compare, but the receipt I do from the store does match. I tried finding the manual and everything else that came with it but seemed to misplaced it, I do remember a warranty card in the box. I am trying to register it so I can submit a repair ticket for a continued Err 70 while shooting. The serial number I am typing is 12 digits long and is on the bottom of the camera by the battery door.

What is the digit in the third place of the 12-digit serial number? It should be 2 for a camera destined for the USA.

Its 2

Vic,

The customer service/tech team are a great group and I am confident they can assist you in either getting the camera registered or explain why you are having challenges. Since you have a receipt I believe they should be able to assist. If you are trying to upload it I am assuming you already have it digital which will be required.

Go right to the source and save yourself some time and frustration. 800-385-2155 or 800-652-2666
