Everything works except when I press down on the shutter button nothing happens.  It doesn't try to focus or make any kind of noise or anything.

I have tried taking out the card and putting it back also taking out the battery and putting it back. I tried another lens and still nothing.,

Please help

You mean it powers on, LCD display works but shutter button doesn't fire the camera?

Did it just start? Did camera get wet, was it dropped?

Yes..power is on, the screen lites up and show all the numbers, modes etc but when you press on the shutter nothing happens.   no clicking sound no focusing, no flash pops up...nothing.  \

no it did not get wet or dropped.  We were just taking picks in the Manual mode and then it just quit.

Does the camera at least act as if it is metering when you press shutter button?

Try switching to AUTO and see what happens.

If that doesn't help try removing the battery, turn camera on and let it sit overnight to drain the internal battery..

If none of that works it may need repair - the switch activated by the shutter button could be defective. Sorry to say, given the age of the camera repair is probably not cost effective.

Ok...well I tried taking the battery out and leaving it on..  It didn't help so I guess I am at a dead end.   Thank you for the information.

At least I know....

Thanks  again

Try reset your camera in the menu. After that, remove your lens and try to take a photo.

If that doesn't work I think that camera model has a clock battery you can remove and replace.

Good point by Peter. Later Rebels have an internal battery that is charged by the main battery. Earlier models have a separate battery abiut the size of a US quarter.

I checked the manual online, and your model has the built-in battery.
