Looking for firmware update for EOS 400D/Rebel XTi

Hello,

I just received an EOS 400D/Rebel XTi from a family member. I noticed the firmware is v1.0.4 which I assume is very old, probably the original from 2006. I was looking for updating it, but the Canon site indicates that there is none available. I'm surprised. Am I missing something? I briefly looked at the posts on this forum and could not find what I am looking for. Where I can download an updated firmware version from?

Google search indicates 1.1.1 is the latest version.

There are third-party sites that are offering the download.

You might try contacting Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and see if they can get you an official version.

If you find 1.1.1 for 400D online and the checksum matches, then it is safe no matter where you find them.

If the newer FW doesn't have a specific feature or upgrade that you need, you do not need to do it. As a matter of fact if you have a perfectly running XTi, I would not under any circumstances chance a FW upgrade. On the chance, albeit slim chance, it goes wrong you will have a brick and Canon can no longer unbrick it for you.

The newer FW may only add languages to the menus for instance. Something most of us don't need. Find out what it addresses to see it is something that affects you and your shooting.

Thanks for the perspectives. I don't have a specific problem with it. I was assuming that a newer FW (given the one I have is the original version I think) would come with some improvements/bug fixes other than languages and other cosmetic adds.

You are welcome. Do you need any of what is listed above?  I doubt it. But you may have that obscure lens or one of those printers. If you don't have any or either and you don't speak Chinese you DO NOT need that FW update. My advice, don't do it.

Thanks for the follow up. It seems I do not need any of the updates included in the most recent versions. I will not update FW at this point.
