Lens suggestion for Canon R50?

mazbii

Hi, I'm currently looking at getting the Canon EOS R50 as I'm starting to get more interested in photography. I will mainly be shooting indoor sports (volleyball) but I'm also interested in landscape photography as well.

Would it be recommended to buy a lens separate to the camera body or purchase it with the twin lens kit (extra $500 AUD) which includes:

Canon RF 18-45mm STM Lens

Canon RF-S 55-210mm Lens

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

For indoor sports you may need lens with a fast aperture since indoors is often much darker than we perceive it to be. The twin lens kit you mentioned does have a reasonable range, but it is relatively slow in the aperture. This would mean you would need to use higher ISO - more noise - and or slower shutter speeds - more risk of not freezing action.

The optimum lens of choice for indoor sports is probably the RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM, but it is more expensive than the twin lens kit which includes two lenses and the camera.

I found the price in AUD is 1,599 for the twin lens kit at one Australian dealer. The same dealer lists the RF 70-200mm F2.8L lens at AUD 4,499. You might also consider the RF 70-200mm F4L lens at the same dealer it is AUD 2,599.

If you need more suggestions please let us know your budget as that is important to understand what options you have.
