EOS R1 Trouble getting manual focus guide to work in AF mode

Hi All,

I am having trouble getting the manual focus guide to work while my R-1 is in AF mode.  The paired lens is RF 70-200mm F/2.8 IS USM.  The firmware version on the lens is 1.1.1 (apparently 1.1.0 or later is required for lens electronic MF to work on this lens, so the version should be good enough.  There is a 1.1.4 version theoretically available, but the Canon link for that is inoperable for some reason).

If I switch to MF from AF using the sliding "button" on the lens itself, the manual focus guide shows up in the viewfinder.  Great!  When I have the lens and camera in AF mode and I manually adjust the focusing ring, however, the manual focus guide does not show up.  It doesn't seem to matter whether I have the camera in SERVO or ONE-SHOT.  What am I missing?  My set-up illustrated below.  Thanks.

The setting you chose only works once after AF has locked in one-shot AF and you are still pressing the focus button. The focus button could be the AF-ON or the half-press of the shutter button.

Note Focus override only works with the camera set to One Shot AF. If its set to Servo AF or AI Focus the focus ring is ignored. This restriction has been in place since 1987 with the release of the EF 300mm F/2.8L USM lens. Canon's early Ring Type USM lenses implemented manual focus override electrically instead of mechanically. All RF lenses whether USM or STM are Focus by Wire and the camera must be set to One Shot AF for focus override to work. Also the AF-On or the shutter button must be pressed halfway for manual focus to work. Also check the menu option that says "Electronic Full Time MF". This must be enable or the focus ring is also ignored.

A good spot on the Electronic full-time MF, but that menu is not in the EOS R1. It appears that Canon have combined it in the single menu shown in the photos of the screens above for both EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II.

I'm glad they finally combined those 2 into one menu option. Instead of 2 different ones that you have to check and enable separately.
