You are located about 1.5 hours away from the Canon Factory Service center in NJ.

That sounds optimistic to me. Jamesburg is located about 45 miles south of the NJ Turnpike's Vince Lombardi Plaza (where, BTW, I once got a very nice shot at sunset), and traffic backups on the Turnpike can be formidable. Just south of the toll booth on the east branch is a particularly bad spot, so try to leave the Lombardi on the west branch (not a trivial task, unfortunately). The west branch has the added bonus of high-speed EZ-Pass lanes.

But if you can overcome the logistical difficulties, you'll find the Jamesburg shop to be staffed with friendly, helpful people; and the speed with which they get work done is phenomenal. On a couple of occasions I've had equipment I left off almost beat me home.

FWIW, there's another service center much closer to Rockland County. However, it's available only to CPS members. I've never used it, because I drive right by Jamesburg several times a year, and Jamesburg is in a much less congested area.

There are quite a number of parks in Rockland.  Many of them are located on the shores of the Hudson River.  One of the best is the Stony Point War Memorial.  It sits high on a hill, which overlooks the Hudson River.

There is also a working lighthouse, which is not open for tours at this time.  There is a catholic retreat in Stony Point that has an 80 foot tall, stone statue of the Virgin Mary.  That part of the retreat is only open to baptized Catholics, though.
