I was gifted a Rebel T5i with several lenses. I've slowly been learning how to use it and have enjoyed taking some really nice photos .. until last week. My camera no longer autofocuses while using the viewfinder; I have to use the live screen to have it autofocus. This happens with all the lenses that came with it. I also purchased a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and that also won't autofocus while using viewfinder. I've tried cleaning the contacts on both the camera and lenses and still same problem. What are my options at this point? Do I need another camera body? Thank you for your thoughts and ideas.

Unfortunately, my incursion into DSLR's is going to be sidelined for the foreseeable future. Thanks for all your help, everything was truly appreciated.
That does not sound promising. If the camera does not autofocus in Green [A+] mode then your camera have have experienced some type of hardware failure.
If Canon Service is still servicing this camera body, I’m not sure how cost effective of a solution that would be. I see used models selling for around $200 at reliable used camera dealers like MPB or KEH.
I would think “upgrade” before I would replace it, even if the upgraded body is a used one. The cost of a used “upgrade” would probably have a similar cost to a repair. Look for a T7i or an 80D, if you go used.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate the feedback. Yes, I'm pretty sure that this Canon has given up somewhat on me. I can still partially use it, but not completely. I've been looking into a used Canon body (an upgrade of course), and everything is about the $350+ range. I'm familiar with both included websites and I check them almost daily.
I looked into Canon Service, but for the price it doesn't make sense. I would like to stay with Canon to make good use of my lenses; and I'm currently putting a couple of dollars away here and there to eventually make a purchase.
Again, thanks for your assistance.

That’s a good price for NIB. Newer 24MP sensor. Get to use all your existing lenses.

Yes, it is. I won't be able to get it anytime soon, but I'm trying to put away a dollar here and there (times are really hard 😥) but eventually I'll get something to replace my current one. 👍

Unfortunately, based on all the testing you have done, it sounds like the camera may have failed.
