Eos Utility will not start

I have just updated to Windows 8.1 and the utility has stopped working,  worked well via Wi-Fi before, Cannon 6D, I get the screen with the pairing message but it dosen't do anything

Did you reinstall EU after you did the Win upgrade?  Do so, with the correct win version which you can get at the Canon web site if needed.

indeed I did, I am having to use it via USB at the moment a very temperamental program
