ETTL <-> M not working on Canon R8 with EL-5

I’m assigning the ETTL <-> M to a button on my R8, but nothing happens when I press it. I’m using a Canon Speedlight EL-5. Is there a compatibility issue? Or a setting I have to change on my camera? Thanks!

In case anyone else encounters this, I updated the firmware on the EL-5 and now the function works fine.
