Is the monitor only the EOS rebel t7 able to be used for TAKING pictures. I only see images for pictures already taken. Have to use viewfinder for taking pictures in all modes. Thanks

Use "Liveview" mode. press the little button that looks like a camera.

Hello!
Shooting with the LCD screen is called Live View shooting. Page 54 of the basic manual goes over it. (Tap HERE) Or page 140 of the advanced manual (tap HERE), or on our knowledgebase HERE.
You can shoot while viewing the image on the LCD monitor. This is called “Live View shooting”.

Thank you for your generous and through reply ! When I press that button nothing happens. Hopefully is a reparable issue?

IF the camera takes images through the viewfinder, there is nothing wrong inside the camera.
Can you shoot movies? Set the mode switch to the little movie icon and press the same "Liveview" button.
It could be a bad button. Try pressing several times at several angles.
