Greetings,

Can you clarify for us?

"When I took second shots at the school ALL pics are there.

All as in the ones you took previously or just the ones you took at the school?

Are you using a full size memory card or a micro SD with an adapter?

Have you tried taking the card out of the camera and using a card reader?

It shows the very first pic of yesterday morning then none of my girl before she got to school then I took couple of her and her friends at school. I had turned camera off 5 mins from my house to school when i noticed none of my pics where on it. Its a full size sd card. I havent put it in laptop yet:/ im worried all prom pics are gone.

Greetings,

If the laptop has a card reader, it won't hurt for you to try reading it.  Copy any images from it that you can.

Then you can decide if you want to try a recovery software.

Can you advise what kind of card you are using please.  Is it a full-size SD card, or a micro card with an adapter?

I have tried laptop only pictures are the last couple I took 😕 and the sd card is the small that goes into big adaptor its a sandisk sd.

If you are using the micro SD card with an adapter that is likely to be the cause of your issues.  They do not work reliably on cameras.  Always use a full-size SD card.

I would also look into multiple smaller 32GB Class 10 SD Cards. DO NOT use 1 large SD Card to store all of your pictures. If the card were to fail you would lose all of your pictures. Using multiple smaller SD Cards prevents this from happening. If 1 card fails you still at have some of your pictures which is better then losing all of them. Stick with well known SD Card brands such as Lexar, San Disk & Prograde Digital. DO NOT buy SD Cards from Walmart's online store or Amazon. There have been multiple posts in the forum where someone has received a counterfeit SD Cards. Stick with well known a reputable retailers such as Adorama, B&H Photo, a local camera store or an electronics store.

you can try data recovery software like this.  The following comes free with sandisk extreme cards

SanDisk RescuePRO & RescuePRO Deluxe - LC Technology (lc-tech.com)

Rebel XT, 7D, 5Dm3, 5DmIV (current), EOS R, EOS R5 (current)

Greetings ,

@Tmag13.  In my first reply I asked if you were using a microSD with adapter. You replied back and said it was a full-size card. Trevor asked again and now you've confirmed it was a microSD with adapter.

Unfortunately you cannot use a microSD with adapter. They do not work, are not reliable and often lead to data loss.

At best you can try a data recovery software like the one recommended above.  Moving forward I suggest you invest in a true full-size non-adapted SD card.

I hope you will have success with recovery, but will not be surprised if the images were not captured in the first place.  I hope this is not the case.

Hoping for the best.
