I have the 75/300 lense and a df-400 power extra flash. I shoot racing photography. I wonder what other lenses or flashes would help create sharper photos? Thank you!

It’s between 200 and 300 typically!

Hi OP, so your shooting with a FF equivalent of between 320-480mm. Are you having problems with low light too. I know you mentioned that you used a speedlite. Which version of the EF 75-300mm do you have. Canon has released several versions over the years. Are you looking for a lens with IS and a wider open aperture.

Demetrius, I tested these over a period and they are all cheap and poor optics and are unlikely to provide a significant improvement in optical performance. I refer you to my post regarding the far superior 70-300 lenses.

'The EF-S 55-250mm may be another good option for them. But we can't jump to conclusions before OP tells us what focal lengths that their using. Before giving them lenses that are too long' by Demetrius
My thoughts exactly...

Given the response above that up to 300mm is the preferred FL then I suggest going for the EF 70-300 lenses, I will refer you to a review I made of these lenses a couple of years ago. See this link

Hi Trevor, I'm aware that all versions of the EF 75-300mm have been optically poor lenses since day 1. I also have a question about the 70-300mm lenses. Is the DO version better than the L version. Not to get off topic from OP's post.

Again my comment was not aimed at you but at the OP, and that is significant as they want a better optic than their current 75-300 - I honestly don't see ANY of that model as being any better.
As to the DO version... It's a fair question Demetrius! I don't own one, but Canon leant me one for a while and from my tests I consider it inferior to the L version and arguably the Nano USM MkII as well. That is one reason I chose to avoid it: that, and the cost which is very high. Anyway with three 70-300 units, even I decided enough was enough...

I believe OP will be pleased by 70-300mm better optics compared to the 75-300mm. Also thanks Trevor for answering my question about the 70-300mm DO lens.

Hi Demetrius - no problems!
I think, given the distances at which the shots were being taken, and the size of the subject - cars, after all - that the 70-200 would do, in which case the EF 70-200 f/4 L units would have been a good fit, or even on of the Sigma or Tamron units in that range, but if 70-300 is the range, then I think that either the MkI or MkII versions of the 70-300 (non-L) lenses would work, the choice then depends on the price and availability.

Most sporting events do not allow flash photography. Are you having problems with low light. You can look into the Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS III USM or the EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lenses. Since the lenses are stabilized this will help in low light. The 75-300mm is one of Canon's worst lenses but it can be a good starting point.
