After years working perfectly, my camera suddenly gave glitches and froze when recording after 1-2 seconds.
I updated the firmware in hopes to fix the problem but now the lcd screen appears glitched even when not recording.
I bought this camera when it was released, and I have take extreme care of it, never dropped, and never got water on it.
I am pretty disappointed that Canon does not want to be responsible for what clearly is a factory defect that has affected a lot of R8 and more R cameras.
But if someone in the community have the knowledge to fix the issue I´ll deeply appreciate it.
Even thought the visor and hdmi out work properly, whenever I try to record, the camera freezes again, and after half pressing the shutter button a couple times, it reboots. But can not be used for anything really. I was hoping to film a shortfilm with this camera but is literally impossible. I want to bring visibility to this problem, and clarify that I am from Mexico, Puebla.

I am sorry to hear about your camera situation. It sounds like a trip to a Canon Repair Center is needed.

The only negative is that the only authorized repair center in my city have terrible reviews online, it worries me even more.

Hello, Rauilito!
Do you clean your camera with that alcohol shown in the picture?

You can see if it is the LCD by using a Mini-HDMI cable and plugging it into a monitor.
It won't help you much, but you can use the camera if the hdmi works. If it doesn't work it means your camera really needs help, and might be belong fixing.

I have an R8 and I like it but I don't love it. It's a glitchy camera every now and then so it does not surprise me to see this report of a glitch. The R8 is my first Canon that has not been flawlessly perfect in use, so I can feel Raulito's frustration. I truly fear the "RE-1" or "R8 Mark II" that the retro model will be called because if it is largely an updated R8, I will be very hesitant to get one.

"I updated the firmware in hopes to fix the problem ..."
One lesson learned and everyone should take notice, never do a FW update on a malfunctioning camera it is a prescription for disaster. The percentage for success is small. If the FW update failed you are most assuredly going to have to have it serviced by a Canon facility. But it may have needed that anyway.

"never do a FW update on a malfunctioning camera"
*Unless* the firmware update specifically says that it addresses the issue. After all, that is often what firmware updates are *for*.
