EOS R6 Mark II modes not switching and most of them registering as P

Andreas01

I have recently bought the R6 mkII and since I tried going throughout the settings and trying to learn them i was shooting from the auto+ mode and i tried to switch to manual and it was registering as P as of many other modes. The mode wheel is working perfectly as it should and i can choose c2-c3-tv-p-a+ and every other mode is registering as P. I have tried many solutions i found online like making sure the firmware is the latest which it is, i have removed the battery and sd card and reinserted them, i made a factory reset, i check if is on the locked faction which is not, i checked the auto iso function but it wasn’t changing anything. Any help or tips will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards

Hi @Andreas01, You've taken a good first step in resetting the camera. Have you attempted to remove the battery/lens and attempted to change the modes after a restart? Have you looked at your current firmware version to see if an update is available.

If all those avenues have been explored I would most likely say it's a hardware issue. Others have had/reported similar issues and said that their body required hardware repairs.

Have you registered the body? If not I would and then reach out to Canon support 800-652-2666

Greetings,

Quick question.  Did you purchase this camera new or used?  What lens are you using with the camera, or is there more than one?

I am currently using my only lens which is a Canon prime RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. I bought the camera used with just 600 shutter count from a legit shop in Germany

Greetings,

Nothing that Canon USA can do for you unfortunately.  I'd return to the shop and try to work with them towards resolution.  If that doesn't work, I'd go throught Canon Support Germany.

Have you reset the camera, yet?  It is a best practice to perform a full reset on a used camera. You want to have all the camera settings in a known state before you begin using it.

I am having.difficulty understanding the nature of your issue with the custom shooting modes. Have you asked the camera shop for assistance?

The custom shooting modes are defined by whatever settings you separately to each one.  I believe the default shooting mode is P.  What shooting mode are you registering to C2, C2, and C3?

There is also an automatic update option, which is disabled, by default. How do you have Automatic Update set?

Yes i have made a reset and i can also add a link to my youtube channel where i added a video as a reel so you can see the problem. What is auto update set? ( https://youtube.com/shorts/OI7n1rSJzXs?si=lYZu821r-bCKsJUF )

Thanks, for quick response and video. Do you have answers to the questions?

THANKS!

Hello @Andreas01

This very much appears to be a mechanical failure which we can't assist with through the forum. You have a couple choices depending on where you are located but I do not believe a warranty repair is an option.

  • Return the camera to the seller for a refund if that is possible. This would be my first option, the repair is going to cost.
  • Contact Canon support in whatever country you are in and if you are in the US use the number I left earlier in this post. I can almost guarantee that they will assist and even setup a repair but it will cost you.
  • Bring it to a third party for repair.

Do a search on the web and you will find others who had the same issue and noted that repairs were required.
