I have two r5 mkii bodies and 4 original batteries. I’m charging the batteries to full and then when I put them in the cameras they only show as 2 bars charged. I’ve updated the firmware and it’s still doing it. Any ideas what’s going on? Both the cameras and the batteries are not even a year old.

I’m going to number the chargers and the batteries to see if there’s a pattern there but going to try the cable when I get one

Just like your phone, it might also be a good idea to occasionally let the batteries fully discharge or get them down to under 20% and then charge them. Perhaps try that?
I don’t know if you’re like many people who will bring a battery to full charge even when it’s still at 80% or so; it’s not a good practice as it reduces the overall health of the battery. Same for leaving the battery the in charger for extended periods once it’s fully charged.

@JeffXB. While that's true, I don't know that would explain why the charger is saying "charged" and the camera saying "70%". Lithiums are not suppose to have a memory like NiCads did. That said, I do tend to keep my power tool batteries at about 70-80% as well as my computer and my phone for longevity, as I've seen studies indicating that works. But I keep my camera batteries at 100% typically. I have some old used ones and they show up at full in my R6 Mark II after wall charging them to green.

“I have some old used ones and they show up at full in my R6 Mark II after wall charging them to green.”
Mine are the for my R6 M2, even the non OEM’s.

Even so, it might be worth a try for the OP. My line of thinking was to rule out any other possible issues.

@KirstineWalton, I have had the same problem in the past. I noticed that when I used non Canon multi battery charger, my batteries would not show 100% charged in the camera but it was acording to the non Canon chargers. I went back to using the Canon wall charger and never had this problem again. Once the battery reaching 100% charge on the Canon battery charger, it shows as 100% charged on the camera screen on the camera. Please try this and let us know if this was the issue.
Also, I have had batteries lose their ability to keep 100% charge within a year. It depends on how much you use the battery in that year too.
Good luck, Michael
