EOS R5 Mark II and EOS EF 24-70 F2.8 - error that the camera and lens are not communicating.

I have a brand new EOS R5 MK 2 When using is with the 24-70 F2.8 and a Canon adapter. I get the error message that the camera and lens are not commucating. This only happens when I zoom in a bit. Say over 35mm. At 24 it is fine. Thoughts anyone. Thanks.

Greetings,

What is the exact model of your RF 24-70? F. 2.8?  How old is it?  Earlier models of this lens are susceptible to ribbon cable failure.  Do you have another camera you can test the lens on?  If you have an older version of the lens, it's possible that's what the problem is.  Try operating the aperture.  If that causes the error, then it's the problem.

I'm not sure if Canon is still servicing earlier versions of this lens, but you can check by logging into the my Canon portal

Thanks for the response. I don't know how to tell what model it is exactly but I've had it siince late 2016. Interesting what you say because it sounds like it could be temperature caused.  Indoors last night and a couple other times it returned no error.  Outdoors today in a temp of mid 50's F at anything 28mm or higher it did. At 24 it never does.

Interesting thing here though, as I think about it. I have a 5D MK4 and it never returned an error. Though that camera 3 months after CITS service now gives the same message for all of my lenses. I'll be sending it to them again. It's why I have the new R5. You can imagine my frustration after getting it on my new camera. Thanks again.
