EOS R5 Mark II Shutter button does nothing, AF buttons cause stuck shutter

Hello, I was shoot a lacrosse game for about 45 minutes when I went to press the shutter and released, the camera kept taking pictures, I turned off and back on again and then the shutter button now does nothing, no AF and no pictures, but the front and back AF buttons now do the same thing as before and get stuck, the only way to stop it is by powering the camera off. I tried new batteries, factory resetting the camera and updated firmware from 1.0.1 to 1.0.3.

This is my 3rd time using the camera, purchased new 2 weeks ago today, hasn’t been dropped, exposed to water, etc.

On the camera was a Canon mount adapter and a Tamrom 150-600 EF lens.

Went back to the store today and they gave me a new body without any hassle but didn’t say what they think the problem might be whether it be just a problem with the camera or something on my end but I guess the problem is fixed now, thanks everyone.

Glad it worked out and was hassle free Ethan. You say the problem is fixed, testing the lenses went well?

So far so good, but with the first body I had a already taken around 1200 pictures with no problems. Wish me luck!

Hi Ethan,

I'm glad that you took your R5 Mark Ii back to the local camera store and exchanged it for another one.  Glad that the problem is fixed and you followed my advise.   When ever you purchase any electronic device, it is always wise to always check it out and make sure that all is as it should be and that it works.  If something is wrong and it doesn't work as advertised than the best thing to do is to always return it as defective and either get it exchanged for a new one or get your money back.  Although the manufacturers always do all they can to protect their products during shipping, often time the products get bounced around and the electronics may be affected.   A chip or a connection coming loose does happen.  In any case I'm glad that it worked out and that you're a happy photographer!  Good luck with your new camera and post your pics that we can see them.

Cheers,
Joe
