EOS R10 Horrible audio from external mic (DJI)

Hi all,

I recently got the DJI Mic Mini (1 transmitter and 1 receiver). I plugged it into the 3.5mm port with my R10 and recorded some footage. After editing the footage I realized that the audio was absolutely horrible compared to what the reviews sound like.

I ended up pairing it to my computer via USB-C and testing it that way, and the audio quality was amazing. What settings do my R10 need to be on in order to make it so that the audio is actually coming from the Mic Mini?

Can you explain what "horrible" means please? Is it the audio is recorded too loud, too quiet, distorted?

Firstly you need to connect the receiver unit with the 3.5mm TRS cable. When using such a mic it is best to set the camera audio recording level to a manual level not use the auto setting. Also you need to check out the settings DJI recommend for the output gain from the receiver on the camera hotshoe. They have a video on their website that suggests reducing the camera recording levels and increasing the output of the DJI receiver.

It just sounds very echoey and the audio isn’t as crisp as the audio recorded from the mic if I plug it into my computer. The audio level is good.

First make sure that you have correctly plugged the mic cable in to the camera. You can tell this is the case because you cannot change the Wind filter setting if a cable is correctly plugged in. 

Make sure that the level on the receiver on the camera hotshoe is set to the correct level described by DJI, and then manually reduce the Rec. level on the camera until the levels rarely goes beyond 12dB.
