I have a Canon EOS R and I would like to be able to have the viewfinder (EVF) stay on as long as the camera is on. However, no matter what I've tried, I can't get the camera to stop turning the EVF off after about 5 seconds of having nothing trigger the sensor that activates the EVF.
These are the settings I've tried:
• Display Settings: Auto & Manual
• Power Saving (Viewfinder Off): 3 min & Disable
• Disp. Performance: Power Saving & Smooth
None of these settings prevent the EVF from automatically turning off. I thought that switching the "Viewfinder Off" setting in "Power Saving" to Disable would prevent it from turning off, but it doesn't. I know it will use more battery with the EVF on constantly, but the EVF turning off is hindering my ability to shoot spontaneously and in the moment.
Is this normal behavior for the EOS R, or is there some setting I'm missing?

Hello Kjferreira98,
You would definitely want to set the Display settings to Manual, then Manual display to Viewfinder. In addition to the other things that you mentioned, this should resolve the issue for you. Make sure that ECO mode is OFF as well.

The rp is an over all problem on camera. I can’t get mine out of the view finder no matter what I do. It’s stuck there. It’s awful. It freezes on me. The adapters I have purchased cause freezing more. I totally regret buying it. Period. It does take gorgeous photos. That is my saving grace for the over priced package I bought on Amazon. I could kick myself.
