I was shooting an event with the EOS 90D using an EF 70-200 F/2.8L IS II lens, when I started getting Er 01. I removed the lens and lightly cleaned all contacts with a clean rag, the problem persisted. The camera reads aperture F00 with no AF control, therefore no communications exists with the lens. I tried a handful (3 or 4) of different Canon EF and EF-S mount lenses with the same issue. I tried all of these same lenses with my Canon R5ii with the RF-EF adapter; all lenses functioned normally. I tried to reset the 90D via the menu, power cycle, switch memory cards, switch Canon brand batteries, and also reinstalled 1.1.1 firmware using the Canon provided procedure. The problem still persists. I cannot get the 90D to communicate with any Canon EF lens. The camera has always been well taken care of, never dropped, and otherwise in pristine condition. There must be some sort of electrical or software issue with the 90D (to note that even when resetting the camera and reinstalling firmware, custom Menu1 that I had set up prior to all of this remained! How can that be?). I'm not sure what else to try, I bought the 90D less that 4 years ago, and put maybe around 30,000 or less clicks. Canon has quoted $440 to repair, almost the cost to buy another!!

Sounds like the camera needs service.

Depending on where you live you should be able to find a Canon repair center close by to have them take a look at it. I'm in the Chicago area and have two shops within 30 minutes that service Canon. It worth doing a search to see if you have something close to you.

I'm in Massachusetts and the closest Canon repair center is in Virginia LOL. So that's not an option. I can try someone local, but they are not Canon authorized, and so there is the risk of Canon charging even more if they aren't able to fix it since it's been "tampered" with.

Trying to see if others have the same or similar issue and if there is a fix that I missed. $440 repair is only estimated and could be more in real life. The cost of a working replacement 90D is probably about the same, so it's probably not worth it. Such a shame, this camera had always worked flawlessly until recently!

pizzaboy17, I purposely didn't use the word authorized because the results are normally pretty close to the same as it pertains to quotes. Royal Camera by me works on Canon, I recently had my 60d act up with similar problems and they resolved it for $120. If you aren't planning it to Canon because of the expense and it doesn't sound like it's working it's a great alternative.
Precision Camera repair center in Enfield, CT or Palmer, MA had pretty good reviews. Midstate Camera Repair in Providence, RI.
There are plenty of of places with good reviews in your area that may be worth checking out.
