Sclements,
The 5D Mark IV has dual card slots. Are you sure you are looking at the card your photos were recorded to?

When you review pictures on cameras with dual card slots. The camera pulls from both cards when reviewing images regardless of what card slot is selected.

I'm convinced that none of the dual slot cameras will pull images from both cards when reviewing. Certainly does is not the case for the EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 5D Mark IV, EOS R6 and EOS R6 Mark II I just tried. This is why there is a need to choose the card for review / playback.

I never knew that. I always have my camera set to record to both cards.

Demetrius,
Thanks for letting me know that. I always wondered how that works.

Firstly press the playback button after taking the photos, the last image will appear. If you press other buttons the camera exits playback and goes to shooting mode. Some people inadvertently tap the shutter which stops playback. You can choose on the camera to have the last image automatically displayed on the LCD after it's been captured. Navigate to Image review on the red menus and check it is not set to OFF.
If the camera is set to record images to both cards, either with RAW on one card, JPG on the other, or same content to both cards simultaneously it might be possible. In this configuration, the playback card is the only one where deleting images happen.
If you shoot some pictures and there will be IMG_0001 on both cards, but when you delete and card 1 is the playback card, then IMG_0001 is deleted only from card 1. Switching the camera to playback from the other card will then show the images still there.
