EOS 5D Mark IV Need to repair View finder sensor glass with gridlines.

Folks

I bought a EOS 5D Mark IV, apparently from a gray market seller through Amazon, and  Canon USA wont touch a repair job.  How would I ever figure out WHO its from  S/N 54303[xxxxxxx]  If not that, where in the US could I get the Opaque Focus sensor glass replaced (with grid lines).  Apparently I scratched it while cleaning.  While the camera works fine for photography, it is annoying.  I can see on line getting the piece of glass is easy enough, and not expensive, I dont feel qualified to pop out the old one and replace it.  any assistance is welcome.

Cheers

Mike

If you aren't comfortable doing that look for a camera repair service in your area.

I saw that.  Saving it to see if I can get the local Mikes Camera in town to do it for me.  Heck I will even buy the part!

Greetings,

I tried to look your serial number up on Canon Europe, Canon Cypress, and Canon South Africa without success.  Did the camera come with a warranty card (for the country of origin)?  Canon USA might not service the camera, but they might be able to help identify the country of origin.  In a way it doesn't matter, since it would probably be more economical to get it serviced state side by a 3rd party.  I'm sorry I don't have more to offer.  Hope you find a solution.

The serial number you mentioned indicates the camera was intended to be shipped to Europe. The 3 in the third position of the serial number is the indicator of a European camera.

I tried Europe, and the page said not there.  Some like Japan and middle East don't seem to have a serial number look up.  Its awfully frustrating.  Sorts very disappointed/surprised that Canon USA wont touch it, and really was not all that helpful.  Love the camera none the less.

.

Canon EOS cameras use a structured serial number, and the third character is used to denote the region the camera was sent to from the manufacturing factory. All my EOS cameras DSLR and mirrorless purchased in Europe have a 3 in the third character position.

This is a partial list of the region codes

  • 1 = Japan
  • 2 = USA
  • 3 = Europe, including Middle East, Baltic countries, Russia, Africa & UK
  • 4 = China

There may be additional codes for India, Australasia, Asia.
