EOS-1D X Mark II How to switch to external mic

Adlook

Hope someone here can help.  I need to get an external Rode VideoMicro II to work on a 1dx mkii.  I'm have selected FHD 23.98p All-I on the menu and have tried both Line input, manual and auto in the Sound recording menu item.  All to no avail, it still picks up the onboard mic and not the external mic.  I'm really new at this - a seasoned still shooter, a real newbie with video.  I do have the cable attached correctly - check it several times.  What am I missing?  Seems like there is at least one duck not in the row 😞

Thanks in advanc

You need to make sure the 3.5mm plug is pushed fully in to the camera mic input. When it's pushed in properly the camera switches to the external mic and stops using the internal mic. If this is not happening then it is possible the connector in your camera is not working correctly and needs service.

Thanks p4pictures.  It's pushed in all the way.  Seems like it's running both mics.  The readout screen even says Line In on it.  I turned on one of the wind noise settings and put gaffers tape over the internal mic holes.  Tried it out yesterday and got the results I wanted.  For an old guy and video newbie there are almost too many options on there and some of them shut off the sound.  Think I can now get the results I want, if not I'll grab one of the other model bodies I have.
