DSLR Camera recommendation

Roger6000

Hi there,

I am looking for a DSLR camera with - lens ( focal length lens ..a range 35- or 80 -) 135mm
The DSLR camera must be capable of making RAW captures. It also must have a fully manual setting and focusing as well as program, aperture/shutter priority exposure modes.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

The OP only thinks they need a full-frame camera.  If they are a student taking a photography class, that's not a typical requirement at all.  The Rebel and lens that Rick pointed out would be a great camera to have to start learning with and should be ample for any photography class.

The focal length mentioned for lenses made me ask if full frame was necessary. 35-80mm, 35-135mm are all focal lengths you usually use with full frame not APS-C. Usually for APS-C they would ask for an 18-55mm lens or some other close focal length to that. Like 15-85mm or 17-55mm. That's why I asked more questions. I was also about to PM the OP to clarify somethings.

The Rebel T7 is an “entry” level camera, IMHO, one rung lower on the ladder from “beginner.”  That is not meant to be a knock against the camera.  DSLRs are complex tools.

I would be interested in knowing the exact language used to describe the camera requirements for this photography course.

The OP listed quite a lot of requirements for the camera they needed for class. So I asked for more information. The lens focal length listed was for full frame. I was looking for an 18-55mm kit lens in the opening post. Unless the OP is also doing 35mm film photography. But they mentioned the Raw file type.

Hi there,

Thank you and everyone for the replies!

I reached out to my professor and she said the requirement was 135mm. I also posted her exact wording. I was under the impression that a full frame was required but this does not seem to be the case. The overall requirements are below. Thanks again for all the help!

I have purchased everything else on the list, so now I’m just down to the DSLR cam. Thanks again for the help 🙂

The 135 film format, 35mm film and Full Frame Digital are the same size (36x24). But Full Frame is the digital name for 35mm film and the 135 film format. So that format never went away it was made into a digital image sensor. So you actually need a Full Frame camera for class. This is usually not a requirement for photo classes. So thanks for clarifying somethings to better assist you.

Roger,

This was the correct answer:

"The Rebel and lens that Rick pointed out would be a great camera to have to start learning with and should be ample for any photography class."

If budget allowed or could be stretched just a bit the addition of a ef 50mm f1.8 lens would be nice.

So the requirement is Full Frame even though the budget doesn't allow for it. But the Rebel is still the best option for the OP's budget. There maybe a specific reason for full frame.

I didn't see any mention of a FF in the posted teachers' requirements. Did you?
