Compact flash card for EOS Rebel XTi

What is the fastest and largest memory compact flash card I can use with the EOS Rebel XTi

19 REPLIES 19

The old lexar 133X 2GB card that came with mine says it is designed to work with the processor in the camera.

What is 133X?    How does that compare to 20MB/S ?

I want to get a SD to CF converter card.  They come in CF I and CF II.  Will it work with a 64GB sdhc card in this camera.

Do I have to format the card in the camera, or on my win10 computer?

Do you know if I can use this same SDHC card in my canon HFR700  video camera?

Is the format or initialization of the video camera different?

DO NOT buy an SD to CF adapter. They rarely work well in any camera; and the older the camera, the less well they're likely to work.

I'm pretty sure I used cards as large as 4GB in my XTi, and I may have used an 8GB. Anything larger, I would not count on it working.

This is for a digigear slim CF Type I

I checked the Amazon reviews and this is what I found:

Answer:
Yes, it can up work with smaller capacity and large capacity SD cards.
For large capacity cards, please make sure the maximum capacity CF card the device can support.

That doesn't change my advice. We have seen numerous complaints in this forum about problems that were apparently traceable to the use of adapters.

Just to reinforce what Robert is saying, look at the answer you posted.  It says SD cards, not microSD cards.

That's an interesting point. I think most of the complaints we've fielded were from users of micro-SD adapters. But I regard the use of any adapter as an unnecessary risk; it's just one more component that can fail. And if it fails, you can lose your whole shoot.

Yes. I meant SD not micro SD.

For 14$ maybe I'll let you know when i get it.

I plan to try it with my 64 GB sdxc that I use in my camcorder

You should stick to the technology that was available when the camera was released.  Software updates since its' release, may have given the camera the ability to use larger cards, but I doubt if it can go over 32GB.

32GB, SD cards, micro Sd and adapters, etc are all a very bad idea.  All you are asking for and waiting for is the shot you really, really want didn;t get saved properly or corrupted or whatever because of the wrong or adapted card.  Sounds like a good Idea don't it? Smiley Indifferent
