Canon USA warranty purchased in the USA or Canada

Does purchased in the USA or Canada, refer to the seller, buyer or both?

That's what I was looking for clarification on.  Both the seller and the buyer have to be within the USA/Canada, not one in the USA/Canada and the other in another country, for Canon USA to honor the warranty...
