I have an R1 and I think I know what you mean. I need to test it further, but I think it's a matter of whether or not my face is close enough to the camera to cause the display to transfer from the LCD screen to the EVF. The menu is still there, just not where you expect it to be. All of these auto switching display features are kind of annoying! I'm in the process of disabling most of them. Take be back to 2012 please! LOL!
