Canon EOS M50 not saving photos

benvoide

I own a Canon EOS M50 and have been experiencing an issue with it: when taking photos, they are not being saved. The screen blinks and there's a mechanical sound, but ultimately the image is not stored. I've tried different SD cards and the problem persists, so I assume it's a camera issue rather than a memory card problem. I can record videos normally.
I should mention that this is a used camera and it's several years old.

Any insights on what might be happening or how to resolve this issue?

Thanks!

Hi benvoide,

I'm sorry to hear your camera isn't saving photos. Since this is happening with multiple memory cards the camera most likely needs service. There aren't any settings that would prevent the camera from saving images to a memory card, and if the cards were full it would show a message about that.

There is one thing to double check on your memory cards. If the lock switch on your SD cards is engaged that would prevent the camera from saving images to it. The switch will be on the side of each SD card and make sure the switch is not lined up with the lock symbol. Another thing is to make sure there isn't any physical damage to the memory cards. Sometimes if parts of the cards are chipped or damaged it can cause issues like this.

If the issue continues we would recommend sending the camera in for service. The Canon U.S.A., Inc. online repair portal allows you to set up service in a few simple steps. The repair portal gives you the ability to set up service for multiple pieces of equipment at once, and to receive a repair estimate in the majority of cases, depending on your model and issue. The portal also allows you to upload images or videos that will assist us in repairing your product. You can also select how you wish to be notified of the progress of your repair. The portal's service history section allows you to view all services that have been performed on any of your camera or video products since January 7, 2020.
