Canon 90D Lens Incompatibility issues any suggestion

i bought a second hand Canon 90D camera with very low shutter count and never got time to use it for a couple of monthes, recently i picked it up but it has strange behaviours. Mounting these lenses 50mm STM, Canon 85mm F/1.8, Canon 24-105mm F4, 75-300mm III will throws error 01, the Nift fisty 50mm F/1.8 EF II  and 18-135mm IS STM works flawlessly in both auto and manual while 18-55mm STM will throw error 70 while 18-55mm IS II works most of the time but throws erro 01 at occationally on shutter release button click. the camera firmware is on version 1.1.1 which is the latest firmware on most of all canon websites. all lenses lenses will detect and accept camera apersture change setting some will accept manual focust like 85mm wint focus on auto and throws error one on shot click the 50mm STM wont allow both auto and manual focus. Can't find any  later firmware to upgrade other than v1.1.1 or lower firmware to downgrade either.Lens contacts are cleanand for each lens mentioned above i tried more than two lenses of each lens model specified above but the issue still persists. any heads up to what might be the issue here thanks

I 've finally managed to fix the issue and the core problem was that there was one damaged lens contact pin on the camera body as it was sunk and never reached/touched the lens Contacts when attaching the lens so because my camera was not on warranty i took the task of disassembling the camera body and do a trial and error finding and testing which pin is similar to the one on my canon 90D from some of my old broken camera bodies as the whole lens contact unit was perfectly fine except the one gold pin so i tried many pins from different broken camera bodies contact pins and they didn't fit until i got a match from Canon 6D i took one pin and replaced it and teh camera has been working flawlessy since then

Greetings,

This is important and a common misconception.  It is not wise or recommended to update or change the firmware on a malfunctioning camera.  Firmware updates are intended to add features, address security issues or to add/improve compatibility with lenses or accessories.

Err01 - typically indicates a communication error between the body and the lens

Err70 - is often indicative of a hardware issue, problem with the image creation process, storage, memory or communication issue.

For your issue(s) this is what we recommend.

Reset the cameras Main and Custom settings to defaults.

Test with various lenses ( which you have done)

Test with different storage media ( known good quality from a reputable source)

Use a Canon brand battery

Discontinue use of any 3rd party accessories (while testing)

Inspect mounts (lens, pins, hotshoe, battery compartment and media slot) for damage

If the behavior continues, the body should be sent to Canon for inspection / repair.

You are absolutely right on the issue of firmware update part, tbh that idea came after a bit of internet search and found that the previous firmware from v1.1.1 had caused similar issues (error 01) on 85mm lens and 100mm Lenses where by the v1.1.1 firmware apart from adding 24fps on 4k video feature it fixed a bug that was causing that glitch tho i thought it was worth looking into it and just incase i forgot to add that into my original post the first step of all was to clear all settings both factory and custom setting .

First of all slowdown. Which lenses DO NOT work properly. Also lenses with “STM” or “Nano USM” are focus by wire. So if the camera can’t communicate with the lens Manual focus won’t work. Also note full time manual focus is NOT available when the camera is set to Servo AF or AI Focus. With lenses equipped with electronic focus rings. This restriction dates back to 1987 with the very first USM lens (EF 300mm F/2.8L USM). All early Ring Type USM lenses had electronic focus rings. Though later Canon would implement a mechanical clutch system instead.

popjx,

The first thing I would is take each lens and mount it on your camera, one by one.

As you mount each lens, go to your Menu and look at the first tab (in red).

Go down to the menu settings for Lens Aberration Correction. Select it. Does the name of your lens appear at the top? If it doesn't, that means your camera is not talking to your lens.

If that's the case, set the lens aside and go to your next one and repeat the process.

It sounds like you have some overlap and duplication, e.g. the 18-55 and the 18-135.

Decide if you want to put your time and effort into what's working, or fretting over what's not. If you want a longer reach, the 55-250 is a pretty good lens, and is pretty affordable. Test one out on your camera before you decide to buy it.

If your camera works on some lenses, but not on others, I suspect your problem isn't with the camera.

i have to note that despite lenses throwing error 01 when try to fire a shot on all lenses works when i record a video but will throw error 01 when taking a shot on lenses with iron mount base and will work well on all lensens with plastic mounting base example 18-55mm and 50mm II amd 55-250mm works on both taking shots and recoring videos the one with iron base that works is 18-135mm only. all lenses with plasic and iron mounting can comunicate with the camera and can shoot a video well they start (one with iron mounting) starts causing chaos w try to take a shot. taking the lens in AF it will show an image but wont rotate the lens motor or shoot anything when firing a shot. i tried to diselect servo AF and AI Focus and try to fire a shot while setting the lense in Manual but still gets an error. also all lenses are visible in lense abbreviation setting when mounted to a camera. thanks

i tested this today and i could seee all lenses under lens abbreviation setting. i forgot to not that despite setting the lens throwing error 01 when taking a shot all lense can recor a video very well. i tested the canon 55-250mm today and it worked well. i observed that when taking a shot the camera throw error on lenses with an iron mount base but shoots videos on all lenses both with plasic and iron mounting bases but works well on lenses with plastic mounting base for taking shots and recording videos
