Canon 70D: Will not hold any memory card

I have a Canon 70D that I've owned for years and love. Randomly, the camera stopped holding any memory card in the slot. Usually, you would insert the card and it would click-in. To release it, you would press the card in and the camera would bounce the card back out. However, now the camera won't hold any memory card at all. I can close the door but the camera won't read the card because it's not IN all the way. There are no fragments of any memory card in the slot and I can't figure out a solution nor find any information on this issue. This is not an issue of the camera not recognizing the card, the issue is that the camera will not HOLD the memory card. I'm in Chicago but I'm not sure where to take it to get it fixed or if it's even worth it since it's a seven (plus) year-old camera.

Hey Chacon22, welcome to the community.

Probability is pretty good that it is the locking mechanism to hold the card is shot, like you said it's seven years old.

I am in the Chicago area also and use Royal Camera Service, Inc. in Hanover park. Their a decent shop and the pricing is competitive. I had some work gone on my 60D before I passed it on to my daughter.

Another good shop is ProCam in Aurora although their pricing is is little higher than Royal but they are an authorized Canon dealer. It wouldn't hurt to hit one and get them to take a look and get a quote. If the price is reasonable you can get it repaired, if not ProCam takes trades and it may be time for a new body. Depending on the condition of your gear they are fairly reasonable if you purchase something.

In my Googling, it appears that Canon stopped repairing the 70D about two years ago.

A replacement on Ebay--yes there is risk--can be had for under $300.

I mention that because a CLA/repair can be pricey on a no-longer-supported camera.

But with some persistence, you can find a good source. I was looking at $300 for a CLA or a working Pentax K2 and the same for resurrecting a KM, BUT I found a guy who is the gold standard in the Pentax world who will do each one for $110.

More than likely others here may be more helpful than what I have said. I hope someone will be a great "go to" Canon person for you that is reasonable in their rates.

Good luck on finding a resolution so you can get back in the game.

Thanks Marc.
I really appreciate your response. I'll call Royal Camera Service this week and set up an appointment. It's probably not worth repair it but I love that darn camera! Thanks again.

Thanks Lee.
I know you're right, it's likely not cost effective to repair it but if it's not crazy expensive and I keep my favorite camera, I'll like do it. Thanks for your input.

I have one camera that I am emotionally tied to that I would probably spend a fortune to fix so I understand.
