Canon 550D SLR won't focus

My Canon 550D SLR won't focus properly, can any one help? Thank you!

We really need a lot more info, but at least check:

1. is lens set to AF.

2. is it bright enough. Go outdoors and try.

3. are you to close to subject.

4. is there enough contrast in subject.

5. are you in One Shot. Not AI Focus or AI Servo.

What does this mean?  Does it focus at all?  Or does it just get close with blurry pictures. Do you have another lens to try?  Or maybe it doesn't work with either lens?

I've tried it with three other lens and it does the same with them all.

The photos are subtley out of focus and what I should have mentioned is that the camera thinks it has focused - ie. it fusses around and then the light in the viewfinder is on steady to show it's focused... but it's not...

Try using LiveView and see if that is sharp. If so, camera probably needs to be serviced.

Live view has the same problem.... ie. the camera says it is focuses correctly but it's definately not...!
