Hey guys
So we have been using the Canon 4000D since a few years. The LCD just went black white last week. Its still taking photos, but we can only view them after downloading photos into the computer to photoshop.
Any ideas?

If you cannot view menus or Live View, then your camera needs to be serviced or replaced.

True, I cant view anything on the LCD and none of the menus seem to work. I read somewhere that if i can connect it to a larger LCD i may be able to use the menu, although I am unsure if that is of any use. Would you have any experience with it?

Replace the camera.

Try to usu an hdmi cable to hook it up to a TV. If that works you can get a small portable lcd hdmi monitor. But it will be really awkward in the field.

I read somewhere that you can do that and "reset" the firmware or something to see if it works. Is that a thing?

"do that"
Do what? There is no need to reset the firmware to attach an HDMI monitor. It is a normal feature.

That you can attach the camera to an HDMI monitor and reset the firmware, which may help the LCD work again.

Updating the firmware won’t fix it. Your display used to work properly. Now it doesn’t. The display didn’t stop working because of a firmware bug.
Proceed, if you wish. It’s not going to make a difference. Failed electronics tends to be a permanent condition. I don’t know why it’s such a popular idea because it never works.

No, this is a hardware problem with the display circuitry. If you are lucky it is the LCD and you can attach an HDMI monitor and get it working to some definition of working.
If you are unlucky it is in the DIGIC display circuitry and you will get no display from the HDMI.
In any case, I think a new camera is in your future.
