I cannot update my R6 Mark III to firmware version 1.0.2
I have tried 3 different SD cards, downloaded the update file twice and still cannot get the update to work. This is not my first Canon camera, and I have always successfully updated the firmware in the past. I also updated the RF 24-105 F4 L lens with no problem at all. I cannot figure out what the issue might be. I have tried everything. New update file downloads, new SD cards, new battery, lens off, lens on, one card slot filled, both card slots filled. I don't know what else to try or where to look. Any help would be most appreciated.
I have attached a photo of the screen where it gets stuck. I know this doesn't look right. There should be an extended file name for me to click on. It does not appear. That is why the OK button is grayed out. But I don't know where the problem lies. I am sure I am overlooking something simple and obvious. But I don't know what it might be. At this point, I have given up. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Hank

Did you try rotating the dial on the back to highlight "OK" then pressing "SET"?

Thanks. But, yes. Tried that, as well as using the joystick and also trying touch as well. Nothing I do will highlight the OK button. Call me exasperated.

Sorry, That should work. Touch will be disabled during the update process, so that wouldn't work anyway. You may want to contact Canon Support.

Thanks again, Newton. I believe you are correct. I’ll give it the rest of the day to see if I get any other responses. Guess I’ll reach out to Canon tomorrow.
Again, thanks for taking the time. Much appreciated.

Greetings,
Not sure what you mean by an extended file name for you to click on. The screen looks normal to me.
You should be able to use the quick control dial. Main dial or joystick as you both mentioned. Touch navigation is disabled on a firmware update. You have to use mechanical controls to move the focus.
Do you have any other accessories besides a lens connected to the camera?
What are the brand, models and sizes of the SD cards you're using for firmware update?
v1.0.1 specifically addresses of formatting issue with some cards. Although updates are cumulative, I think you should try upgrading to v1.0.1 in this case. Then > 1.0.2
Let us know your answers to my questions above please.

Well, many thanks to you both. And Rick, before answering your very detailed and informed questions... let me say that I finally got it to work. Chalk it up to another case of unknown cosmic interference. I decided to give it one last try, before giving up. You know how they say things like, walk away from the problem and come back to it later. Well, I wish I could tell you what happened. Unfortunately, I can't. But what I can say is that I am now a happy camper once again.
Again, many thanks to you both for taking the time to help me out. Maybe, you actually did. Since I got it to work after talking to you guys. 😂
All joking aside, I appreciate it very much.

You are welcome, Hank, and It's great to hear that you got it to work! Since my reply, I've done some digging and found a few cases like yours, but not many. Some were resolved by reformatting the card in camera and giving it another go.
I use both the R5 and the R5 II and my wife uses the R6 II. We also have the R6 but I loaned it to my grand nephew along with some glass so he can learn a bit.
I want the R6 III but will be waiting to see how it develops and things shake out before I bring one home. I know it's leaning more toward video, which I'm not interested in, but the stills specs look impressive. I think the pixel count is a nice compromise between the R5 series and the current R6 series.

Like you, I have no use for the video side. Never been interested in using an interchangeable lens camera for video. That said, I think the photo specs are great. I have had the camera for awhile, and I am quite happy with it. I mainly shoot landscapes and nature. And, as you say, the 32.5 megapixel seems the perfect resolution for me. Just right, sitting between the R6 mk ii (24 MP) and R5 (45 MP). I primarily use the 24-105 F4 L and the 70-200 F4 L.
I expect that things will “shake out” quite favorably. In the mean time, I am enjoying this new camera.
