Hi there.
Yes, I am aware that there are several thousand pages on the internet relating to possible focus issues on some 70D's and indeed I've posted on one such thread on this forum. In discussions with Canon UK who aren't fantastic when it comes to putting product experts front line.
Old camera is a 600D, great bit of kit, used for stills and videos, works very well.
First set of photos using the 70D were slightly out of focus so have just spent a load of time getting to know the camera and taking some pictures to work out exactly what's happening.
Manual focus no problem. Love the ability to zoom in the live view and focus really accurately.
1pt centre sensor seems to focus ok.
Centre mode focus (9 sensors) gives poor results, image doesn't focus accurately. nowhere in the zone is focussed, infact nowhere in the image is accuarately focussed.
Intelligent focus using all 19 sensors doesn't give pin sharp focus but that doesn't surprise me entirely as it may want to focus on a different area to me.
Auto plus setting doesn't focus accurately. I can't see a way to select single point focus in A+.
50mm f1.4 prime lens using 1pt centre sensor focusses slightly in front of the centre sensor not on it. This could no doubt be corrected using micro adjustment.
So, my question to you is this; Am I being thick and doing anything wrong? Am I correct in my thoughts re: the 50mm prime lens and micro adjustment? Is poor focus using A+ on the 70D normal and you have to live with it or could it be indicative of this 70D manufacturing error on random cameras?
In terms of my expectations I hope I'm reasonable. I've posted a couple of photos showing the results and focussing errors here: [ulr]http://s1001.photobucket.com/user/CEO-H/library/Canon%20D70%20focus%20problems?sort=3&page=1[/url]
Thanks in advance for your help.
I really want to like this camera but the point and shoot lack of focus is worrying. On the other side I can see that the servo adjusting re-focus in live view for video work is a vast improvement on the 600D which had a very clunky focus system in video - but I stil managed to shoot some excellent (in my eyes 😉 ) footage.

Hi Henryf!
Welcome to The Canon Forums, and thank you for your post!
We appreciate your participation, however we need to let you know that the Canon Forum is hosted and moderated within the United States by Canon USA. We are only able to provide support for Canon products manufactured for and used within the US market.
We highly recommend contacting Canon UK by visiting http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/Contact_Support/ or call them at +44 (0) 20 7660 0186. We’re confident that UK support will be able to help you resolve any concerns you have.
Feel free to discuss Canon products sold outside of the United States, but please be aware that you will not receive support directly from Canon USA.

As far as I'm aware there aren't any differences between products sold in the UK or USA. Certainly when I made my last video in the USA it all seemed compatible. I wasn't wanting support from Canon - I was hoping for advice from experts instead of whom there seem to be a few on here..
I have contacted Canon UK who have tried to pull the wool over my eyes once already and I now waiting the 5 days for a "Product expert" to get in touch.
Here's me thinking the WW of www. stood for World Wide.
I wish you all the best of American luck, will get my coat and leave you all to it.

As closure to my thread I now know the answer and it has been resolved. There was a fault with the camera.
I won't take up unnecessary space on your American only forum by expanding or explaining how to check cameras you think might be at fault but rest assured not every 70D suffers. There will be a lot of people who don't realise they have the problem due to either the way they use the camera or the fact they don't look carefully enough.
Henry 🙂

I assume that it's obvious to you (and if it isn't, it should be) that when the moderators of this forum refer you to Canon UK, they're simply following Canon corporate policy and saying what they're told to say. If you don't like the policy, take it up with Canon's corporate Hq; don't shoot the messenger.
Moreover, your insinuations that you're unwelcome to participate in this forum are totally unfounded; even the moderators were careful to make that point. All they said was that they're not allowed to try to help you directly, as Canon UK would be. Again if you have a beef with Canon's UK support, take it up with them.
