5D Mark IV with 50mm lens

Just received my Mark IV, but for some reason my 50mm lens AF (Auto Focus) won’t work. It won’t focus on the pointed area, it won’t even bleep. What could be the problem?

Thank you

What 50mm lens do you have?

Does the lens have an AF/MF switch? If so, is it set to AF (auto focus)?

Do you have any other lenses that work with the 5D?

I’m not sure what 50mm, how do I find out?

Yes, it has a switch which is set to AF.

And no, the only other lens I have isn’t compatible with the Mark IV.

What brand? Canon? Other?  The lens should have markings somewhere on it.  For example, my EF 50mm f/1.2 lens has on it near the front:

CANON LENS EF 50mm 1:1.2 L USM

Oh sorry, yes it’s a canon EF 50mm 1.4

Does it AF on your EF-S camera?

The Canon 50mm f/1.4 is notorious for an easily damaged focusing system.

Try to get access to another EF lens that you could at least borrow to try on your camera. That would determine if it is a lens problem or a camera problem.

Before you do that, try resetting the camera settings and custom functions, just in case you had back button focus engaged.

@barkley, do you mean does my camera have a AF/MF switch?if so, then no it doesn’t

No you said:

"And no, the only other lens I have isn’t compatible with the Mark IV."

So I assume you have an EF-S camera with some EF-S lenses. Try the 50mm on your EF-S camera.

@barkley The 50mm works fine on my EF-S, focuses, bleeps and shoots. I just tried it.
