I was interested to see A POST in DPREVIEW to the effect that Canon had told Viltrox to stop selling Canon RF mount lenses. I went to the lens company's website HERE and there is no listing for Canon RF lenses and, in fact, none for the EF-M mount either.
This information might be useful if someone asks about Viltrox lenses on Canon bodies, as it seems they have stopped producing product.

I don't know the answer to either of those. If you go to the VILTROX SITE , there are certainly no RF lenses on sale there, but there are some EF-M lenses. I think it is best to wait and see.

I noticed that Canon really hasn't stopped any 3rd party manufactures from making EF lenses. To a lesser degree EF(-S)-EF-M adapters. But it looks like Canon is going full scale with the RF Mount. Now it looks like EF-M doesn't really have a future. With the release of the RF-S Mount R7 and R10 bodies. But EF-M didn't have many native EF-M glass or 3rd party lenses.

Hi Demetrius:
The EF / EF-S mount market is a very mature one. My memory of the period when Canon moved from the FD mount to the EF one was that they were also protective of their lenses for a period. That is logical, given their desire to recoup their investment. However, as time passed they licensed use of their mount and firmware to a widening range of 3rd party providers.
The EF-M story is a curious one. It seems to have been a niche market for those who want a small MILC and for vloggers - a premise that is still valid today given the apparent history of M-series sales, especially outside the US.
I get at sense that Canon were more centred on those who value compactness over long focal lengths, given their longest FL was 200mm - although one could add any EF or EF-S lens via the adapter. It was almost like a limited dry run for the R-mount! I agree with you that Canon seem to be trying to move that market onto the new, smaller and cheaper of the R-series bodies, with similar FL kit lenses for the R7 and R10 bodies.

Makes sense maybe Canon will discontinue EOS-M.

I think that is going to be inevitable at some stage. Canon said they will continue to sell DSLR and EF-M gear as long as there is a market. However, I think it seems indicative that they are attempting to woo those users onto the R platform. It would drastically simply their range, and manufacturing costs for them to do so.

Have you ever tried adapting old FD lenses to the EOS-R series. I heard you can't easily adapt FD lenses to SLR/ DSLR cameras without added optics.

No, I must admit I have not. Still, I would ask why one would want to do that when there are so many RF and EF lenses available?

"Canon said they will continue to sell DSLR and EF-M gear as long as there is a market."
The last DSLR and ef/ef-s lens has already been made!

"Say what you want, I prefer to believe the experts: in this case an international patent lawyer."
Trevor it is short minded and sighted to think you are the only person with any contacts. You are not. You are not a person that worked for a large corporation that had a bank of lawyers and patent attorneys did you? Yes, my friend, 40 years of it. You seem so confrontational lately.

Looks like Canon Germany has identified the issue as patent infringement.
