I read a review that advised that one can use the 70-200 MkI tripod mount on the new lens without an issue. The only difference is a slight change in colour. So, armed with that I went to Ebay and for the HUGE investment of around $8 US, I got one shipped to me and it has worked perfectly - I can live with the colour differential.
I might note that when buying on Ebay or any other auction site I look very carefully at the number of trades the vendor has made and their approval level.
