TS-E 17mm and Extender EF 1.4x not working on EOS R

Hi everyone. I have a problem trying to used mi Ts-e 17mm lens on a Canon R body (not RP). I been used this lens for a long time on a Canon 6D without any problems but in the Canon R I have the "f00" error message. I already tried the Canon R adaptor with seteable ring, the Canon adaptor without ring and a drop in filter Meike adaptor. In all the cases to verify that it is not a problem with the adapter, I have used other lenses (canon 50mm, 85mm, extender 1.4 and tokina 16-28) and they work well on both cameras but the extender 1.4 or the ts17mm doesn't work. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

This is straight from the manual. The TS-E 17mm F/4L IS NOT COMPATIBLE with any of Canon's teleconverters. All of their TS-E lenses are INCOMPATIBLE.

I appreciate your response but I think you are focusing on the extender, and not on the problem itself between the lens and the body R. Regarding the extender 1.4 and the 17mm TS-E lens, I have been using it for 4 years without problems on my Canon 6D.

The manual for the lens clearly states that the combination you're trying to use. IS NOT compatible and you should not attempt to use it. Will the lens work without the teleconverter attached. Just with the Canon mount adapter and the TS-E lens.

The Canon Ts-e doesn't work in the Canon R and the Canon adapter. But still working on the Canon 6D (alone and with the extender 1.4)

Canon states their teleconverters DO NOT work with ANY of there TS-E lenses. So please discontinue the use of teleconverter it could cause damage to your gear. How you're using your gear is an UNSUPPORTED mode of operation. TS-E (Tilt Shift Electronic) & MP-E (Macro Photo Electronic) work on the EOS R series when adapted. These lenses DO NOT have AF or IS but have electronic aperture control just like other EF/ EF-S lenses have. They work natively on EF or EF-S Mount cameras the same way but no AF or IS but still have electronic aperture control. Your TS-E lens needs to be checked out by Canon. This sounds like a lens communication problem.

Maybe the problem is with the lens as you say. Because even with just the lens and the canon adapter (without the extender), it still doesn't work on the R body. However, it works well on the full frame bodys (not mirrorless)

The lens working with the extender on the 6D is called “a happy accident.”

Does the TS lens work properly on the R7 if you set Green[A+] shooting mode on the top dial?

[EDIT] Does the lens still work on the 6D?

The OP has the original EOS R. I have used adapted TS-E lenses on the R6 Mark II & R7. They worked correctly. In live view mode the focus guide popped up on the screen to assist with MF. The manual for TS-E lenses states when tilted or shifted auto exposure may not attain the correct exposure. The manual recommends against using auto exposure. Instead to use manual mode to attain the correct exposure when the lens is tilted or shifted.

The problem here, is clearly "adapting". You are trying to adapt a lens that was not designed to work on a different system. The R series system. I am still amazed you were able to bolt up the 1.4x tel-con to the T&S lens. The 1.4x extends into the back of the lens and that is why it is incompatible with some, if not most, lenses.

I am not going to further the off brand adapter as some have but it isn't a good idea to use any of them. A better place for it besides a little used drawer is the circle file. If the T&S still works on your DSLR consider yourself lucky and cut your losses. "The lens working with the extender on the 6D is called “a happy accident.” " I totally agree, leave it be.

The likelihood of damage to either may be small but it is not zero.

EOS 1DX and 1D Mk IV and less lenses then before!

The picture below shows the back of the lens in question along with the EF 70-200mm IS lens. I still don't trust using  teleconverter on it. Even though it looks like it would mount on it. Canon says its incompatible there's a reason it is. But TS-E and MP-E lenses do work when adapted on the EOS R series and the camera will help you manually focus the lens. I did try out an adapted TS-E lens on the R7 & R6 Mark II and everything worked as it does on a DSLR. There is no AF or IS on TS-E or MP-E lenses but the aperture control is electronic just like every other EF or EF-S lens.
